When Will Things Settle Down?

As a young married couple or a newly formed family with small kids, do you often wonder if your busy schedule will ever settle down to a relaxed, organized, routine way of life? You may ask yourself, “When will we have an opportunity to take time for ourselves and spend quality time together away from the stress of a culture filled with one time commitment after another?” Chances are that is not going to happen organically unless you PLAN! Planning some quality time could be just what you need to evaluate your priorities and recognize that your relationship with each other and the Creator of the universe is the number one priority.

Comforts of the Mountain Light Lodge

You will have the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere and comforts of a remote mountain lodge, overlooking a vast pristine valley, with a panorama of alpine grandeur as a backdrop. Each morning, we begin with a hearty big buffet-style breakfast including plenty of coffee, tea, and juice. In the evenings, we enjoy wonderful home-cooked meals around the fireplace or out on our gorgeous deck. After the evening meal, you may choose to select a book from our library and find a cozy spot to read, enjoy lively conversation with others, play a game or work a puzzle, or just curl up on the couch in front of the fireplace. Of course, there will be ample opportunity for you and your mate to find a secluded space to spend quality time together.

Hiking & Backpacking

Be prepared to enjoy a variety of mountain activities. This trip consists of day hikes through beautiful valleys with waterfalls, overlooks, and cascading mountain streams. Additionally, we offer a variety of great options during the week- you may choose to kick back on the deck and enjoy the sunshine, take a leisurely stroll in the meadow, photograph the wildflowers, wildlife, and wilderness, or perhaps an energetic activity of mountain biking the nearby roads and trails would be more appealing. You will have ample opportunity to enjoy the little town of Pagosa Springs for a long as well as a relaxing soak in the World’s deepest hot springs. Throughout the trip, we will be discussing issues we commonly face as married couples. Each day ends around the fireplace relating things learned and the impact on our lives for the future and the promise of a warm and comfy bed at Mountain Light Lodge.

Rafting the San Juan

The San Juan River originates on Southern Colorado's Continental Divide before it travels through southwest Colorado into the northwest corner of New Mexico and bends into Utah. This river is the perfect family adventure with small to moderate Class I-III rapids. The late spring and early summer is the best time to find whitewater.

As you travel down the river, you will be able to see a historic abandoned railroad, ghost towns, and old homesteads. Also along the river are Anasazi ruins that are not visible from any other point but the banks of the river. The river also runs through the San Juan National Forest and the Southern Ute Indian Reservation. These areas boast beautiful scenery and wildlife. The mixed cottonwood and pine forests are home to golden eagles, deer, elk, beavers, and bears.

Relaxation

The last day will offer a variety of great options. You may choose to kick back on the deck and enjoy the sunshine. You may take a leisurely stroll in the meadow, photographing the wildflowers, wildlife, and wilderness. Perhaps a more energetic activity of mountain biking on the nearby roads and trails would be more appealing. Everyone will enjoy a mountain-style feast straight from the grill – steaks, corn on the cob, potatoes, veggies, etc., along with plenty of garlic bread and cold iced tea. We end the day around the fireplace relating things learned and the impact on our lives for the future.

You will not regret participating in this wonderful opportunity.
