September 23 - 29: Empty Nesters and Retirees

When Will Things Settle Down?

As a young married couple or a newly formed family with small kids, do you often wonder if your busy schedule will ever settle down to a relaxed, organized, routine way of life? You may ask yourself, “When will we have an opportunity to take time for ourselves and spend quality time together away from the stress of a culture filled with one time commitment after another?” Chances are that is not going to happen organically, unless you PLAN! Planning some quality time could be just what you need to evaluate your priorities and recognize that your relationship with each other and the Creator of the universe is the number one priority.

Comforts of the Mountain Light Lodge

You will have the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere and comforts of a remote mountain lodge, overlooking a vast pristine valley, with a panorama of alpine grandeur as a backdrop. Each morning, we begin with a big buffet style breakfast, including eggs, bacon, ham, hash browns, fresh fruit, various breads, pastries and plenty of coffee, tea and juice. In the evenings we have wonderful home cooked meals around the fireplace or out on our gorgeous deck. After the evening meal, you may choose to select a book from our library and find a cozy spot to read, enjoy lively conversation with others, play a game or work a puzzle, or just curl up on the couch in front of the fireplace. Of course, there will be ample opportunity for you and your mate to find a secluded space to spend quality time together.

Hiking, Backpacking, Rafting

Be prepared to enjoy a variety of mountain activities. The first day we hike to a beautiful valley with waterfalls, overlooks and cascading mountain streams. On the second day, we load up our backpacks and hike into the wilderness backcountry for an overnight adventure. We pitch our tents next to a refreshing mountain stream, test our skills in the many fishing holes, explore the surrounding valley, and end the day around the campfire enjoying a mountain style feast and discussing issues we commonly face as married couples. The next day we hike back to the trailhead and travel into the little town of Pagosa Springs for a long, relaxing soak in the World’s deepest hot springs. Lastly, we end the day at the lodge having a delicious hot dinner, enjoying down time, and then retiring for a good night’s rest.
Get ready for some splash – splash from whitewater, splash from water fights, and splash from jumping in the river. As we raft along the river, you will also encounter an abundance of wildlife, glide through one canyon after another, and enjoy ridiculous laughter with your spouse and fellow rafters. At the end of the day, we return to the lodge for dinner, down time, and a cozy bed for the evening.

The last day will offer a variety of great options. You may choose to kick back on the deck and enjoy the sunshine. You may take a leisurely stroll in the meadow, photographing the wildflowers, wildlife, and wilderness. Perhaps a more energetic activity of mountain biking the nearby roads and trails would be more appealing. Everyone will enjoy a mountain style feast straight from the grill – steaks, corn on the cob, potatoes, veggies, etc., along with plenty of garlic bread and cold ice tea. We end the day around the fireplace relating things learned and the impact on our lives for the future.
