Rocky Mountain Marathon
Elite Athletes
Over the past few years an elite category of athletes have requested a challenge that will rise to a standard worthy of their training. So here it is - an experience that will test your physical endurance and at the same time call on your mind and spirit to endure and finish.
Continental Divide Trail

The trip will begin in the foot hills of the mighty San Juan Mountains. On the first day we will steadily climb up through the forest, meandering along beautiful streams, and soon emerging above the timberline. For the majority of the trip we will hike the gorgeous continental divide trail, dazzled by an array of spectacular peaks rising on both sides. One of which we will scamper to the top before moving on. As we continue along the trail we will gaze downward into one beautiful valley after another that channels water toward the Gulf of Mexico on the East and the Pacific Ocean on the West.
Trout Lake
If we make good time, we'll drop down off the Continental Divide Trail and spend a day at Trout Lake, a charming spot to fish, relax and visit with the folks on the Adult Challenge II trip - that is, if we've been fast enough to catch them.
Be Prepared
Each day the hiking will begin just after sunrise. We will put in ten to twelve miles a day, finishing by early afternoon to avoid the storms that could catch us above timberline. Names like Knife's Edge add to the excitement of this challenging adventure. Be prepared to face a variety of weather conditions, rugged trails that never seem to end and several imposing mountain passes, before descending back into the foothills.
Hot Springs and Full Course Feast
At the end of the trail, we'll head into town and soak our weary bones in the healing mineral waters of Pagosa Hot Springs - recently designated in the Guinness Book of World Records as the deepest in the world. Afterwards, we'll travel back to the lodge for a feast of grilled steaks, roasted corn on the cob, baked potatoes, fresh salad, garlic bread and buckets of iced tea.
So long distance runners, tri-athletes, well conditioned weekend warriors, here is your chance.
