North to Alaska
A premier adventure to the far North-Alaska
V.O.W. again offers a premier adventure to the far North-Alaska. An adventure that includes three days of floating the Chitna River, three days of hiking Alaska's sensational mountains and three days of enjoying the Kenai Peninsula, including a cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park and fishing for king salmon.
You will be responsible for your own flight arrangements to Anchorage. Plan to arrive on June 27th. We will lodge that evening on the beautiful campus of the University of Alaska. Early the next morning, we will travel to the town of Chitna and meet one of Alaska's best-known bush pilots, Paul Claus, and fly deep into the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. The flight is an adventure in itself as we view an infinite amount of glaciated peaks reaching far into the sky.

Our adventure continues when we land at Ultima Thule Lodge, world-renowned for it's remote setting and playing host to the rich and famous. The first night we will camp on the bluffs above the lodge, then bright and early the next morning, we'll load our gear into the rafts and begin a three-day float trip through what is considered the continent's greatest mountain range. After three days of sensational wilderness scenery, including untamed sections of Whitewater, an abundance of wildlife, and waterfalls reaching up to 400 feet, we'll arrive at the confluence of the mighty Copper River. At this point, we will end this fabulous river journey and head back to the University of Alaska for an evening of rest and relaxation.
The next day we will head out to Eagle River Valley for three days of backpacking in some of Alaska's most beautiful mountains. During those three days we will experience Alaska at its best as we traverse across glaciers, view spectacular waterfalls and wildflowers, explore mining ruins and hike to Crow Pass, the highest point on the historic Iditarod Trail.
Our spectacular adventure will culminate with three days of touring and fishing on the world famous Kenai Peninsula. Our base will be Captain Blighs Beaver Creek Lodge on the banks of the Kenai River. One day we will travel to the Kenai Fjords National Park. Departing from Seward, Alaska we will take a cruise in Resurrection Bay and view an array of jagged cliffs, sea birds, marine wildlife and of course the great Alpine glaciers feeding into the ocean. The next two days we will have a choice of fishing with Captain Blighs guides or going it on our own. Fishing the magnificent Kenai River and other streams and rivers for sockeye salmon, trout and the grand daddy of them all, Alaska's king salmon is an ultimate fishing opportunity.
