The first day we'll enjoy some of the charm and comforts of the lodge and its beautiful surroundings as we relax around the fireplace, dine with new found friends or after browsing the library, read a good book before turning in for the night. Bright and early the next morning we'll have a hearty breakfast, pack up and head for the trail.

Over the next five days we'll encounter the many wonders of the San Juan Mountains as can only be done with a backpack. We'll learn the skills of map and compass as we hike through vast evergreen forest and beautiful meadows decorated with a variety of wildflowers. The trail meanders along a stream that eventually leads to its headwaters, high above the timberline.

Trout Lake

Your endurance to reach the timberline will be rewarded by a day of relaxation, as we set up camp on the banks of Trout Lake, nestled like a jewel in an enchanted valley. This day you will have the option to climb a nearby peak, try your hand at bagging those elusive trout from the lake that bears their name or just sit back and enjoy the scenery and good conversation with a buddy.

the Continental DivideThe Continental Divide Trail

At daybreak the next morning, we will continue this journey as we set out for a breathtaking hike on a portion of the Continental Divide Trail, viewing one vast mountain range after another, to the east as well as to the west. HAVE YOUR CAMERA READY, you are in for a treat as well as a challenge.

Desending back into the Forest

Descending back into the forest, we'll make our way along yet another beautiful stream that guides our way through gorgeous canyons, past serene lakes and cascading waterfalls to the peaceful valleys and meadows below. Along the way, expect to see a variety of wildlife, including the possible sighting of moose that reside in the area.

Hot Springs and Steaks

As we head down the trail the last day, look forward to a soak in the hot springs along the banks of the San Juan River and a feast of steaks on the deck of Mountain Light Lodge.

It is complete wilderness challenge you will not want to miss.

Again the question is:  Do you want to push the envelope?
