Before packing up and heading for the trail, we'll enjoy the comforts of beautiful Mountain Light Lodge - family style dining, relaxing around the fireplace and of course a good night's rest.     

Outstanding Backpacking Experience

This trip is designed for those who want an outstanding backpacking experience but at the same time want ample opportunity to enjoy special interest activities such as fishing, photography and day hiking.

Fishing and Photographing,
the Weminuche Wilderness

Our encounter with the great outdoors will take place in the spectacular Weminuche Wilderness, one of America's newest and least traveled wilderness areas. For the fist two days we'll follow a trail that will lead us deep into the heart of this remote wilderness and set up base camp in a beautiful meadow beside a refreshing mountain stream. Along the way we'll learn to navigate with map and compass and to identify the many varieties of wildflowers and wildlife. The next three days we'll day hike to the many unique spots that surround our camp, looking for that special fishing hole and photographing towering peaks, waterfalls and wide open spaces.

Timberline Lake & Climbing a Peak

On one of these days, we will day hike to a lake high above our camp at timberline.  The fishing is always good there, or if you want to just "kick back" and enjoy the view -- IT'S FANTASTIC. We will also have the option to climb a nearby peak form our base camp. At the top, you can see for a hundred miles, and if you tote a cell phone you will be able to reach out to a friend or family which will always generate a surprise and a congratulations for your accomplishment.

New Found Friends

Concluding this wonderful experience, you will also have the option to have a long, relaxing soak in the hot springs on the banks of the San Juan River.  Afterwards we will go back to the lodge and grill some thick juicy steaks for our final celebration feast, along with some good guitar picking on the deck.
